Already we had at LEAST four big frogs, and dozens and dozens of large tadpoles about to grow legs, and now this! I’m not sure what will happen to our frog population – will the fish and larger frogs eat the tiny ones? Will the larger tadpoles hop off to greener algae-filled water when they are able? Who knows, but I do know the frogs will duke it out in their own way. For us, their existence is an endless source of wonder.
Well, if you remember the girls’ frog observations of last week, you will not be surprised by this outcome! Only a couple days later, while I was gardening and the girls were, as usual, huddled around the little pond, I heard the cry: "Frog eggs! Mom! The frogs laid eggs!" Sure enough, tangled among the rocks and the water forget-me-not were thousands of black dots in slimy clear goo. The girls were thrilled by their discovery! Only the next day, Christina informed me that they had hatched "and if you wiggle the plant, you can see lots of tiny black squiggles that look like tiny tadpoles!" And so it was, but I couldn’t get a good picture of them, they were so tiny. Already we had at LEAST four big frogs, and dozens and dozens of large tadpoles about to grow legs, and now this!
